A Beginner's Guide to Deep Sea Fishing

 Beginner Fishing

As a little boy, your father probably took you on a few fishing trips. He might have taught you the basics of fishing such as setting the bait and knowing when to reel in the line. All this is certainly a huge adventure to a young boy but now that you are grown up, it is time to take your fishing experience to a whole new level.

If you have become bored with fishing at the usual lakes and rivers that you've always gone to with your friends, it would be a good idea to start learning about deep sea fishing. Of course, it is not advisable to venture out onto the sea on your own without any knowledge or experience. For your first few trips, it would be a good idea to go on chartered fishing trips along with many other beginners like yourself. You can easily find these chartered fishing trips in practically any area of the country where fishing is a significant part of the lifestyle. In these trips, you will be sailing out to sea or the lake in the company of a fishing guide who knows pretty much everything there is to know about deep sea fishing.

You do not need to worry that you do not know which bait to use or what spot in the water has the most fish, all this will be taken care of by the fishing guide. All you have to do is throw out the line and reel it in when you get a bite. While this can definitely be a convenience, this setup does pose a problem - with all the help you are getting from the fishing guide, it will be hard to learn much or even enjoy the entire fishing experience. It is for this reason that you should also learn as much as you can about deep sea fishing, particularly about selecting the lure.

The choice of lure plays a significant role in the success or failure of your deep sea fishing expedition. Unlike in riverside or lakeside fishing where the baits are pretty much the same, there are many different factors that you have to consider in order to determine what lure to use in deep sea fishing, such as the size. The general rule is to use bigger bait to catch bigger fish. Small lures will just likely be ignored by the big fish and you will just end up with a mediocre prize.

The depth of the water is another factor to consider in choosing the lure. As the water gets deeper, it also gets darker. Although most fish have excellent vision, most ordinary baits will no longer be seen in these extreme depths. For these cases, it would be best to use a luminous bait to grab the fishes' attention. Once you master lure selection and gain enough skill, you will find that deep sea fishing is certainly a very rewarding experience.
