A pontoon boat is a flat vessel that is supported by two or three metal cylinders, often referred to as pontoons. They usually have railings all the way across the boat, except for on the bow in most cases, and can have a bimini top, or a custom made top. Pontoon boats are great for throwing parties, why? Because since they are flat there is a lot of room to move around compared to other types of boat models. This will also give you a variety of options when it comes to what kind of furniture or other customization that you would want to add. The decks on pontoon boats are mostly water proof carpet, or they could be a type of hardwood. Pontoon boats can also make great fishing boats with all the room that they have, and it is very easy to install a live well and some fishing rod holders. The only drawback to this is that pontoon boats are not made for high seas what so ever, any wave over 4 foot will crash over the small bow easily, so it is not recommended at all to take a pontoon boat out into the ocean. Pontoon boats are mainly designed for lakes, rivers, canals, flats, and maybe out in the bay if the weather is nice.
If you are having trouble finding a pontoon boat at a decent price then you should look into used pontoon boats, you can find a lot of good deals on them, especially when the interior is trashy looking or old, the seller will usually sell dirt cheap. Only do this though if you have the ability, or the extra money, to do the repairs yourself. Buying a pontoon boat is a lot like buying a house, they can always be upgraded and repaired to your liking. If you are unsure of what size pontoon boat you want then I would suggest renting a pontoon boat. Many marinas and tourist stops will rent out pontoon boats for either half of a day or a full day, this will give you the feel that you need for a certain size pontoon boat, like how many people can fit on the boat comfortably, you could do a search on the internet and different sources will tell you different numbers, but the best way to find out is to test it out yourself.
